And we're off! The last few days have been super fun! And turns out we are super rusty! :) And by rusty I mean remembering just how long it takes to do EVERYTHING. So as I type on Friday at 5:30pm, we are finally en route to South Bend, IN from Canton, OH, the place we thought we would be yesterday and the campground was gracious enough to not charge us for last night.
That was NOT the case with the original Canton campground, which was a place I had found when we came up with the idea to go a more northern route out west and go to the NFL Hall of Fame. If anyone read the OGB (the 2014 blog), then you know that I am not good with math. Or details. Both of which are required when planning trips. (Which is why I literally never plan. I just show up where Shawn tells me to.) So it should have been no surprise to Shawn after 20 years that the place I reserved was an hour NORTH of Canton and the NFL Hall of Fame. So, if anyone finds themselves in Streetsboro, OH and would like to stay the night at Woodlake Park Campground, let me know as I have a credit. š
In our family, each kid gets a special trip for their 10th, but Luke's was June of 2020, therefore it didn't happen. Luke is our middle child, just turned 12, and is a total sports nut when it comes to College & NFL football and NBA Basketball. He plans to be a sports announcer. After he plays college basketball at VT (of course) and then gets drafted by the NBA (naturally) and retires with 5 championships, THEN he will be an annoucer. (Should mention he is a 60 pound 54 inch 12 year old. He says he'll be Spud Webb.) All the COVID bday sadness was gonzo the instant he walked into that building. (which is massive - like a 3 hour+ tour. Macy and I finally found an empty cafe and watched Friends on her phone. lol)
If your family likes football, then you HAVE to put the hall of fame on your bucket list.
While on the topic of Luke (which we always seem to be in our house, whether for good or for bad!), here's another story from the last 24 hours. I feel like most families will agree that among your children, there is the type that takes initiative, figures things out, doesn't need much help, etc. Then there is the one that is nothing like that. Well, that would be Luke. So yesterday when we were leaving (finally at 2pm) to go to the hall of fame, everyone but Luke was outside (walking Denver, putting stuff away, etc.) and we realized we were locked out. (See my fave entry #6 from the OGB - you'd think learning would have occurred.)
When we all realize the door is locked and Luke is the one inside, we just look at each other like 'great'. Because we know that the two odd locks on an RV door are just something he A. has never noticed. B. could care less about and C. will take way too long to tell him how to open.
Luckily we realize Macy has her phone with her and Shawn's is in the RV, so we call and walk him through it. It reminds me of the time that I was outside waiting for Macy to be dropped off from Kindergarten and Luke, who was 3, had turned the lock while fidgeting with the door. The quick version is that I had to yell through the door for Luke to go get his 1.5-year-old brother out of his crib (and wake him from his nap) because he could figure out how to open the door. Sure enough, Jude's cute little sleepy self, in his sleep sack, paci in mouth, comes down the stairs and opens the front door for me. #enoughsaid
We are about 30 minutes away from our campground outside of South Bend, IN, where tomorrow morning we will get up and go see Notre Dame. (I would include here that Rudy is Luke's favorite movie, and one of mine, but Shawn has let me know multiple times that I shouldn't say out loud that that is why I am excited to visit. š¤Ŗ)
We plan to drive 18 hours over Saturday and Sunday as we head toward Idaho. Here's to hoping I don't have much to blog about over the weekend. ha!

But boy, did we laugh our way down Dollar Mountain! I have loved 'adventuring' with you, Tennille--and then finishing off the sun-filled days with a nice glass of cold rose. Best summer ever!
