Hello everyone! So let me start by saying I have never blogged before. In fact, I have really never read or followed a blog. Well, that’s a little bit of a lie b/c Pinterest has introduced me to all kinds of blogs but I only use them for recipes and don’t read them. So anyway, I am basically saying I have no blogging experience, which means I really don’t know if there are rules or blog etiquette, or whatever. I am simply starting this to journal our summer experience that is set to begin this Sunday. My little family of 5 is headed out west for about 7 weeks to see the sights. And by little, I mean my children are 6, 4 and 2. And let me not fail to mention that this whole magical, memory producing trip, is taking place in an RV. And I am very aware that only 2/3 of my children might have an actual memory of this entire summer. As this is my first entry, I feel the need to give a little background on how this whole thing came to life.
I married a goal setting, type A, dreamer and doer who loves to set goals. Did I mention he is passionate about goal setting? (I think he is actually just as passionate about checking them off the list – the man loves a good check mark when something has been accomplished.) I was always someone who planned about 4-6 hours ahead. Now we have a notebook that has 1 year goals, 5 year goals and 10 year goals. That are broken out into “buckets” as my husband calls them (which are really colored tabs, in which I think there are about 12 total). This RV experience is filed away in the tab titled ‘Trips and Adventures’ and it was added to the goal notebook in 2009. Yes, 5 years ago. It was on the 5 year plan. To give you an understanding of how intense this goal setting is, here is a quick story for you. In January of 2012, I was sitting in my office, 8 months pregnant with our 3rd child. My office phone rings and it’s my husband, who I should mention is literally sitting in the office next to mine, and he is giddy because he has been reviewing our goal notebook and we were 4 months ahead of schedule with said baby number 3, per our goal list we made in 2007. So that should sum it up for you. This trip was happening, whether we, or our completely not ready for a serious road trip children, were ready.
I must admit that the stars did align for this trip to happen. Both of our work situations presented an opportunity to have a “break” and we are both very passionate about spending as much time with our parents as possible. We are blessed to have all 4 of our parents still living and healthy and we genuinely love being with them. My in-laws also own an RV and generally spend their summers traveling, so we decided to do the trip together. (Technically we are probably crossing two things off the list. Lots of time with family and the trip. I will need to look into that!)
So that’s how this happened. I don’t know how often I will write but I am shooting for 3 times a week. Oh and the picture is from the day we flew to Florida to pick up our new ride and drive it 13 hours back home. Notwithstanding the copious amount of xanax required for me on that trip given the 30 MPH wind gusts throwing us all over 95, all in all it was pretty fun.
May the peace be with us.

But boy, did we laugh our way down Dollar Mountain! I have loved 'adventuring' with you, Tennille--and then finishing off the sun-filled days with a nice glass of cold rose. Best summer ever!
